My Training and Treatment Approach
About Me
I am trained as a Developmental Psychologist and a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with over 30 years of clinical experience working in the helping professions, specializing in working with clients who have not responded well to traditional treatment. I hold a Certificate of Advanced Studies in Pastoral Counseling, and I am certified in Advanced Trauma Treatment. I am an NASW Board approved Clinical Supervisor who is thrilled to shepherd budding clinicians in their process of becoming more seasoned clinicians. I am the co-founder of Nyame Nti Cultural Healing Arts Therapy, Inc. (N-CHAT), a 501c3 nonprofit organization that integrates the fields of mental health and the arts to promote healing, and I incorporate healing arts in clinical practice. I am the creator of Drumetry™, an art form that integrates two of my passions, drumming and poetry. I am a published author, a recording artist, percussionist, songwriter, vocalist, harmonicist, and Healer through Music, and I am proud member of the Baltimore-based band, Roses n Rust.
I have personally and painfully navigated the rough waters of growth and transformation. My own healing journey can be likened to the Hero's Journey: to live through pain, be transformed by it, and to share the gifts and wisdom with others. I have faced my own shadow, danced with my own demons, healed my own trauma, and am now experiencing profound freedom and JOY! I invite you to this sacred path . . .
My Approach
I use a holistic, eclectic approach to therapy that meets clients where they are and empowers them to access their own inner beauty, strength, and resources. I conceptualize therapy as a co-creative process, wherein I work collaboratively with clients to reach their treatment goals. My approach is strength-based and depathologized. I have helped clients who seek to transform their lives and those who simply need a safe, nurturing, supportive environment that allows them to simply BREATHE and simply BE.
